The scarcest position in the game

Goalkeepers make up 15 of the 214 cards — around 7% — and they are spread across only 12 of the 14 categories. Two categories have none at all.

Worse, goalkeeper is the one position that flexibility does not solve. Outfield cards cycle between positions, so a striker may cover your midfield gap. Nothing cycles into goal.

Gagamaru is the position

Five of the fifteen goalkeeper cards are Gagamaru, spanning 57 in First Selection to 85 in the Japan U-20 Squad. If you are chasing a keeper, you are usually chasing a better Gagamaru.

The 85 is the best in the game and sits in the deepest chemistry category, which is a large part of why Japan U-20 Squad is the strongest build target.

What this means practically

Fix the keeper before your squad's general floor, not after. A 60-rated keeper caps what the rest of your squad can achieve in a way a 60-rated full-back does not.

And when you commit to a chemistry category, check its keeper first — committing to a category whose only keeper is a 72 is a decision you will have to live with.
